M is for, N is for...

This season is all about monochrome! A must have key look of the 1960's, you can now carry on the swinging decade by adding monochrome to your outfits this winter. Shift dresses, mini skirts and geometric also come hand in hand with monochrome style.

Hands down, mine and George's favourite place in the whole entire world! Such a beautiful place, and I can only imagine the city is even more mind blowing at Christmas time! I mean, New York is already light up 24/7, at Christmas it must be like a massive sparkler. Definitely visiting New York in December next time!

K is for, L is for...

There's a chill in the air which means only one thing! It's time to get those winter woolies out, yay! From fur coats to capes and even to those (personally, not my kind of thing) singing christmas jumpers we as a nation can't get enough (which is lucky considering we have to wear them 99% of the time this time of year.) Knitwear has been a popular choice of clothing for years, with the popularity of roll neck jumpers in the 1950's and the oversized sweaters in the 1980's, you cannot go wrong with a bit of wool. And seeing as jumpers and coats are pretty much the main essential in these cold winter nights, grab yourself enough to supply you throughout the whole season, and in my case, one to go with every outfit.

This season is all about tartan, dogtooth and of course Leopard Print. Leopard Print has been a popular fashion style for years and years, in the olden' days the reason for its popularity was that it was a very expensive garment, so was used as a symbol of wealth and status, and throughout the years it has been a key look in the fashion world. Leopard Print can be found on all sorts, from coats to handbags, from furniture even to a jumpsuit (just like Mel B did.) Just don't go full on like her and cover yourself head to toe in it (major 90's flop!)

I is for, J is for...

One of the best things about Christmas is the endless amount of Christmas films that are shown on television throughout the month of december, and the one that has to be top of everyone's list is the old classic 'It's a Wonderful Life.' Such a perfect feel good cheesy Christmas film to lift your spirits and put you in that Christmassy mood! But you can't forget the others either, my favourite films are National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and The Muppets Christmas Carol, what's yours?

No outfit is complete without some jewellery! Whether it's bracelets, a necklace or earrings, they will be a must on the perfect Christmas outfit you're all probably starting to plan. Jewellery is a timeless accessory so no matter what you buy you can hold on to it forever. To complete your look with a vintage touch, pearls or diamonds are a perfect choice. And in the words of Marilyn Monroe, Diamonds are a girls best friend.

New York, I love you

If I had to choose my most favourite place in the whole entire world, it would definitely be New York City. And I'm pretty sure there are thousands of others that would agree with me. The whole city is magical, the moment your taxi drives you into viewing distance of that magnificent New York skyline, you fall in love. I have been to New York once, unfortunately, and have since craved to go back. I went to New York with my boyfriend George in March this year. We visited New York for 5 days and stayed in the New Yorker Hotel, talk about luxury, and the hotel was located in 35th Street which is located 10 minutes away from Times Square, we couldn't have stayed in a more perfect spot! 

On this post I'm going to share with you my time in New York, seeing as it's #throwbackthursday, and maybe try to (which will be hard) describe just how magical New York is.

Not only were we walking distance from Times Square, The Empire State Building was literally down the road. So, all we had to do was walk out of our hotel and there it was. It was pretty amazing. The first night I remember visiting Times Square, and it blew my mind, there was no words to describe. It was the most busiest, brightest and engulfing place I've ever stepped foot in. Don't forget we had been travelling all day, so with the amount of tourists, cars etc I was pretty scared. We also experienced the best pizza on our very first night (and a couple of nights after too) at John's Pizzeria. It was a huge pizza, and when I say big I mean American big. We literally can't eat any pizza without comparing it to John's anymore.

Throughout our stay we visited Rockefeller Centre and went right to the top to see the whole of Manhattan, no view beats the views on top of any skyscraper in New York City. We also got the chance to see a Broadway show while we were there, seeing as George is not a massive theatre lover like me, I couldn't ask for anything like Hairspray, so we chose Jersey Boys. And I loved every bit of it (and I'm pretty sure George did too!) There's something different about watching a show in Broadway, it's got an extra special feel to it. And now, any Jersey Boys song just reminds me of New York.

Macy's was just up the road aswell! It's massive, it took us a couple of hours to walk through and we only done about half of the store.

We even got to experience to of our favourite things! I visited Monica, Rachel, Joey and Chandlers apartment in Friends, it was quite a walk but it was so worth it. Even if George still doesn't understand why. And he got to meet his all time icon Batman, and Bane, and you can see from the picture he loved every minute. 

On another day we visited Central Park, it was massive we only walked around the bottom half. We visited Strawberry Fields, and with both of us being massive Beatles fans, we loved it. We then walked over to The Dakota Hotel, which is the location where John Lennon got shot. It was crazy to think John Lennon had been there over 30 years ago. During our stay, it was rainy and cold, and before we left we had planned to go ice skating in Central Park, which unfortunately got cancelled due to the rain. 

We also got to experience travelling around on a New York water taxi! The boat ride allowed us to visit the 9/11 memorial also, which was so emotional yet eery. The whole place was silent which was lovely. The boat then took us along to see Brooklyn Bridge and Wall Street, the architecture of New York is so incredible. The talent that is shown in the city is one of the best I've ever seen. After sailing near Brooklyn, we then got a close up view of Lady Liberty, with Frank Sinatra's version of New York, New York playing in the background, I even started to well up a little bit. 

If I could, I would go to New York as much as I possibly can, if only I had the money! It definitely was my favourite place on earth, my favourite holiday and all spent with my favourite person. So, if you haven't been to New York yet and experienced it's wonder, then I insist you must go. Now. Or definitely put it on your bucket list.

G is for, H is for...

One of my favourite things about the Christmas season is celebrating it with your whole family, no matter how many quabbles or snares you've made in the past, Christmas allows everything to drop and brings you all closer together. Not only just Christmas Day either, the celebration lasts a whole month. With giggles, food and the occasional knees up, whats not to love?! This is why Christmas is my favourite time of the year!

I love Halloween! The excuse to dress up as a witch, cat, dracula etc, cover yourself in scary make up and pretend to be someone/thing for a night. It's also acceptable to watch Hocus Pocus even at our age and remember Winnie, Sarah and Mary Sanderson, and that cute talking cat Binx that we all still want as our own pet. And let's not forget sweets galore (or maybe the occasional apple, if you're unlucky) and those chilly nights gathered around pumpkin carving! Its a shame it only really lasts one day right? Trick or Treat.

E is for Evening wear

Every girl needs that killer dress that you can't stop awing over yet never wear because your saving it for that perfect moment. And the perfect seasons for evening wear are definitely autumn/winter with all those christmas and new years celebrations or just an excuse to cheer yourself up with a party due to the typical English weather. There is so much vintage inspired style dresses and prints on the catwalk this season you can't go wrong!

F is for Fur coats and hats

Those cold winter days mean only one thing, the fur comes out! Fur hats, fur coats, fur gloves, fur scarfs. Wearing vintage fur is becoming increasingly popular, although, I don't expect you all to wear fur, but if you do love a bit of cosiness and warmth then go ahead and treat yourself!

C is for, D is for...

The only perk about working in retail? Christmas starts in October! Thats right, when you work in a shop Christmas is no longer just a measly one month celebration. All the better for a Christmas time fanatic, like myself. So this week we have been receiving a load of lovely new christmas stock in our deliveries at work, Cath Kidston. And what's better is that their Christmas stock is much more cute! We have Christmas mugs, wrapping paper, stockings, cute little tree decorations all just waiting for me to buy. And let's not forget all these lovely cold nights we've been having (I'm pretty sure me and George are the only people mad enough to be so excited for the chilly-ness?!) Anyway up next in my vintage inspired Christmas countdown, are the letters C & D. Enjoy!

C is for Cliff Richard

He might be tacky as hell, but you can't deny there is no Christmas without Cliff! Every year he is guaranteed to bring out a cheesy Christmas song that we either hate or secretly love. Don't tell me you don't know all the words to that famous song 'Mistletoe and Wine' or do the arm sway when the song is playing? That's right, didn't think so...

D is for Dogtooth

Dogtooth, also known as Houndstooth, is a popular textile pattern that was founded in 1885 in New York City, but became popular in 1933 when the houndstooth check were included in part of a 1933 spring men's suits collection. And personally one of my favourite prints, at the moment I'm dying to get my hands on a dogtooth mini skirt to pair nicely with my black polo neck top.

A is for, B is for...

Autumn is finally here - hoorah! This means cold winter nights with cups of tea or hot chocolate, big fluffy bedtime socks and those comfy jumpers we all secretly prefer to a mini crop top that shows our ever so shy belly buttons. I love Autumn, the season were it becomes acceptable to laze around in your pjs all day and start listening to Christmas songs... well, slightly acceptable. For the next few weeks I'm going to be creating my own A-Z of the Autumn and Winter seasons to help you all getting into the spirit. 

A is for Autumn

My favourite thing about the Autumn season this year is the fashion! So many vintage inspired pieces are on the high street and on the catwalk. And it's so perfect, that i'm a little worried about my bank balance... My personal must have is the high neck shift dress, the perfect 60's styled dress. And the amount of adorable coats there are out there right now, whats not to love?! From capes to boyfriend coats, from parkas to fur. This is now a perfect excuse to own a coat that will go with every outfit, I mean, we wouldn't want our outfits to clash right? Also, the popularity of roll necks and tartan have risen, so be sure not to miss out!

B is for brogues and bags

Where would we be without our bags and our brogues? A bit screwed I think! And whats better is that both fashion items will never go out of style. First up, Brogues. Worn by both men and women, brogues are a timeless piece of fashion that have been worn for years. A low heeled shoe or boot that can vary from any colour, such as brown, black, red, cream etc. However, in today's fashion, brogues have transformed from just low heel shoes to wedges, boots and even high heeled shoes. Grab yourself a pair this autumn - they're perfect for your own A/W checklist. And don't forget those bags! These aren't just a fashion accessory, they're a necessity.  But who says they can't be just as stylish as the rest of your clothes, because bags are definitely part of your outfit. Whats so great about bags is that they came in every shape, style and colour, and more often or not you can't go wrong! Except maybe not a yellow bag with sunshine and daises covered all over in winter? Go for a variety in autumnal colours, such as brown, beige, red and black and you'll be good to go!

Friday's Vintage Finds

It's my birthday in 5 days!! I can - not wait at all! I turn into a right kid when it's my birthday, I love presents, can't sleep at night, and birth(day) doesn't always apply to me. It should be birth(week) - oopsy! Who would've thought I'm going to be 22?! And not only that, I have a special birthday surprise weekend happening tomorrow and Sunday, all organised by George - which I know nothing about, I just know i'm going to love it, exciting!! How has all of your week been??

It was all about the mini skirt back in the 1960's, however there was still a part of the older generation that disagreed with the risqué style of the mini skirt. Imagine if they saw what some people were wearing today, they'd go berserk! Here is a photo of some London girls protesting for mini - skirts in 1966.

Horst: Photographer of style
Last Saturday saw the opening of an exhibition on the life and work of photographer Horst at the V&A Museum in London. The exhibition will display Horst's most well known photographs, and is open from September 6th 2014 - January 4th 2015. Get yourself down there, it sounds like a brilliant exhibition!

Friday's Vintage Finds

It's Friday again! Doesn't it feel like last Friday not long ago - blimey! The years going so fast, it'll be Christmas soon (it is only 16 weeks away - yaaaay!) The school holidays have finished this week, so all the kids are back to school which means work is super quiet at the moment, and to be honest it felt good! Match of the Day opening titles to celebrate 50 years

This week Match of the Day celebrated it's 50th anniversary! The first Match of the Day was broadcast on August 22nd 1964, with an introduction from Kenneth Wolstonholme. Throughout the years comes Jimmy Hill in the 1970's and all the way to Alan Hansen and Gary Lineker today! First shown highlights of a game was Liverpool v Arsenal were Liverpool beat them 3-2, and was watched by an estimated number of 20,000 people.

Friday's vintage finds

Happy Friday, vintage lovers! What an exhausting week it has been. I'm pretty sure the Mod Weekend, Victorious festival and then a leaving do on the Monday has fully worn me down. So it has been a lazy week this week for me, with the occasional appearance at work. Which means bed, films, bed, films and endless cups of tea. This week, me and George watched the films 'Memento' and 'The Prestige' (yes, we were in a mind blowing kinda mood this week) and both films, although before now I had never heard off, are A-MAZ-ING. Such a good way to get your little mind working over time, to make up for the rest of your body not bothering.

Films of the week: 


Alfie (1966)
A romantic comedy starring Michael Caine and directed by Lewis Gilbert. Alfie is about a young womaniser who leads a selfish life and treats women with no respect by cheating and lying to numerous women. The plot takes us on a journey throughout Alfie's life, where he later begins to realize his actions when events force him to see his selfish behavior through another's eye. I felt the film was a great watch, and it has a lot of different meanings if you read between the lines as it raises awareness of the major issues throughout the 60's such as gender, sex, abortion and freedom.

Rest in Peace Richard Attenborough
29 August 1923 - 24 August 2014



A great loss! Richard Attenborough was an English actor, film producer and entrepreneur. Best known for his roles in Jurrasic Park, Miracle on 34th street and The Great Escape. One of Britain's best known screen celebrities has died this week on 24th August due to a stroke. Rest in peace.

Brighton Mod Weekender

This weekend me, George, his mum and dad and some of his friends travelled up to Brighton to attend the annual Brighton 60's Mod Weekender. This was my first time joining in on a Mod weekend, and I must say I had a blast! The whole town was filled with people dressing up to reminisce and appreciate the 'lifestyle' of the 1960's. There was music being performed along the seafront, scooters parked on every stretch of road and so many people of all ages joining together to celebrate an iconic decade. 

The mod weekend is an annual event that occurs every year on August bank holiday weekend. It runs through Friday till Sunday with a heap of events to embrace yourself in! The weekend starts at a local bar just 200 yards away from Brighton Pier, which is actually where the scooters arrive in the film Quadrophenia! The bar serves food and drink throughout the day and also features stalls where Vintage clothing, records and memorabilia are sold. Also along the seafront, a number of musicians and bands delight you with music from the magical decade, so you could say there is always something to see where ever you go! The evening/night time is all about The Komedia! The venue provide an act on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. Unfortunately, due to living in Portsmouth and having to catch the last train home, we were unable to go to The Komedia, but I can only imagine how much fun it was.

Along from The Volks Tavern, just outside of The Modern World Gallery, was were I spent most of my day. Two music acts from Portsmouth dedicated their day entertaining the audience with their musical talent. First was a 7 piece 60's cool girl tribute band called 'The Fliks' and secondly, George Wedlake an acoustic singer/songwriter (who also happens to be my boyfriend, so if you like Noel Gallagher inspired music give him a listen! The Fliks are a local band from Portsmouth that bring back the spirit and the magic from the 60's that we all love! And the party doesn't just start and end on the front either, the whole of Brighton seemed to be in the 60's mood that weekend! Even places as far up as The Dorset were full to the brim of side burns, beehives and slim suits! Overall I had an amazing day, and would definitely recommend it to any Vintage/Mod/60's or just plain fun filled day lover out there!
