All the glitz and glam

It's nearly December, which means its time for all the sequins, glitter and bling to come clamoring out again just in time for the party season! And this season, the shops are covered head to toe in glitz, we could literally dress up like a fairy and still be a walking model for high street shops (but then again, that wouldn't look good so maybe don't try that look). I love a bit of sparkle in my outfit this time of year, I'm not normally a bling-y sort of girl, but when it's December it's acceptable. And also, Christmas is my favourite time of year and I want that Christmas spirit following me around all month! So below I have chosen a few of my favourite bits and bobs I have loved this week to share with all of you, and they're all healthy on the bank balance, hurray!

1. First, let's start with the handbag - probably the most easiest way of adding sparkle to any outfit if you're not daring enough to go the whole way. This is a perfect little piece for the big work night out, or even just catch up drinks with the girls.

2. You can never go wrong with a little red dress. A definite must in your wardrobe personally, I have 3 right now. And the colour for this magical season

3. I loooooove this dress! The pattern, the style, the high neck; perfect! Shift dresses are such a flattering style too, so you don't have to worry about how many mince pies you shove down your throat this year...

4. I'm not normally a fan of glitzy glitzy heels, but there's something about those block heeled sandals I can't get enough of this season! And I think everyone needs a pair of them statement heels for the holidays.

5. Glitzy nails are my favourite thing at the moment, I've been wearing them since October to get me into that Christmas spirit (it was the only thing I was allowed to do that was Christmassy without getting moaned at.) Go for the Nails Inc brand, it's good quality and still at a reasonable price. 

6. Now it's not all about the dress, if your more about the trousers this top is perfect for you. Rock this with a pair of slim black trousers, glitzy heels and the odd bits of bling-y accessories, and you're good to go!

7. And who says you just have to sparkle on a night out? I think these are perfect to add a bit of glitz to your bedtime chilling with a cup of tea, fairy lights on and that Christmas film playing.

Get some wintery nails

My 5 favourite Rimmel London nail polish 
Autumn/Winter season

There's nothing worse than looking down and seeing your plain old boring nails, and there's no excuse either as there are thousands and millions of different nail polishes and colours out there for you all to try. My personal favourite and lifesaver are from the brand Rimmel London, I find it is the cheapest product that doesn't gloop or turn into mush, and there's so many different colours I have a colour for every day of the week, perfect! So here are my favourite nail varnishes that I'm loving this week - autumn/winter style. 


Blue Eyed Girl
This polish is such a lovely colour, and I think I'm a sucker for it as blue is my favourite colour. It's easily applied and doesn't gloop or smudge. The polish also only needs one coat as it's such a strong colour, which is even better for us cause it will last a lot longer!

Pillow Talk

Another one of my favourites. I love this coat cause it reminds me of the snowy side of christmas, with all the ice, the penguins and snowmen. With this polish you will need to add two coats as it is very light when only adding one. But how cute is it though, I love baby blue!

Black Cherries

Perfect colour for this years autumn and winter fashion, with all the tartan and plaid out on the high street this will complete your outfit perfectly. And only one coat is needed too!

Double Decker Red

Of course, you cannot forget Red. The main colour of Christmas, Santa Claus, fire burning and the colour of your face when you take that long walk to work in the freezing cold. The colour Red is a must have when it comes to the winter season, well a must have for me anyway!

Space Dust

And let's not forgot all the glam and glitz with sparkly silver to really top of the party season. Really perfect for that party dress you've been dying to wear all year, and I guarantee you will feel all christmassy when you apply the polish, trust me.

How things have changed

Nowadays everyone wants to be skinny, we can blame the press and the media for that. The celebrities are all size zero and little girls are bought up with super skinny role models, and to be honest it doesn't even look good! Can you believe that about 50-60 years ago, everyone was trying to put on the lbs! Just look at these advertisements, it's almost amazing how much time has changed. 

Curvy girls were seen as glamorous. And in my opinion, it still could be like that!

I love this advert 'Come on and enjoy life,' I mean who wants to eat a lettuce for lunch anyway?! Besides, the jolly ones are always the curvy ones!

Retro me: flapper girl

When people think 1920's, the first thing that springs to mind is Flapper Girls. "Flappers" were young women that swore, drunk, danced and dressed in ensembles that at the time were frowned upon, or considered taboo. These past "rebels" helped create the turning point of women's fashion for years to come. The style was inspired by the geometric forms of the Art Deco movement. The key looks of the "flapper girl" can easily be replicated for you to copy today!

Basque Dress

The basque dress became a popular design in 1923, and was worn by many flapper girls. The designs consists of a three tiered skirt, low waist line and the several rows of shirring underneath the upper tier. The flapper basque dress is very slimming and flattering for the female figure. 

Drop Waist

The dresses in the 1920's were designed to hide the womanly shape so the drop waist was the perfect style to create that popular boyish figure. Most skirts contained pleats or ruffles to the design for decoration.

Bobbed hair

The most popular hairstyle of the 1920's; The crop. Hair had been transformed from the long locks of the Gibson girl to the daring bobbed hair. Styles included 'The Shingle' cut and 'The Eton' cut.

Cloche hat

To compliment the change of hairstyle, you need a good hat to match. And that's what the Cloche hat did, with the introduction of the bob came the small Cloche hat that fit shapely around the head the same way as the hair structure. 

Beads

Long pearl necklace's are a must have accessory for a 1920's Flapper girl. They're the classic and timeless piece that stemmed from this decade. The long beaded necklace is a sophisticated best and will top your outfit off with the added touch of glamour.

Stockings

Women's legs started to receive more attention than ever before in the 1920's with the hemlines getting shorter more flesh was on show, which introduced the Stockings.  Stockings were made from silk, wool, cotton and synthetic rayon and they wore worn in beige, ivory or pastel colours. Flapper girls became more risque with their stockings, they started to roll them down to mid calf. 

Short Skirts

Short skirts in the decade were midi skirts to us nowadays, yet this style was very risque as the hemline were shortened to above the knee. The skirts came in all sorts of different styles, such as pleats, long column plaid skirts and handkerchief hem chiffon skirts.

Anyone for tennis?

It's that time of year again, where every kid across the country are out in the parks hitting that yellow ball for 2 weeks. SW19 the postcode for Wimbledon. At last we have a reining British Champion, Andy Murray, 77 years we've waited for a male champion, back in the 30's it was Fred Perry. And hasn't the fashion changed? From the white long flannel trousers and long white skirts, to thigh high skirts and skimpy shorts. But one thing that has been maintained is the tradition of the players wearing all whites. Affectionately, Wimbledon is known as the all whites club. Lets have a look back at the changing fashions of Tennis throughout the years. 

1920's

Even though the 20's was a step up from the 'not even ankle showing' 1900's, there was still barely any skin on show. The decade introduced loose fitting clothing and drop waists, the body had no structure. Men wore white flannel trousers and plain white shirt while sometimes adding cable knit sweaters that made them distinguishable to cricket players. 

1930's

The outfits became more feminine as pleats were added. They also became more tailored and the hemline was raised a fraction to allow better movement. 

1940's

The hemlines became as short as ever, playsuits and shorts became fashionable in the 1940's and were introduced into tennis clothing. The shorts also saw a return of the sports dress.

1950's

The outfits became clinched in at the waist, crisp white dresses and the occasional white woolen cardigan were worn. The skirts included pleats and became A-line.

1960's

From the introduction of the mini skirt, tennis hemlines became thigh high length. Little shift dresses were worn and headbands became popular.

1970's

In the 1970's the outfits got tighter and hemlines got even shorter, visors were introduced and clothing was exaggerated with patterns and wide collars.

Fashion. The Twentieth Century

Another new purchase I have made lately. 'Fashion. The Twentieth Century' by Francois Baudot. A lovely A5 sized book full of a variety of photographs throughout the years and a well detailed and fascinating read enticing us into the world of fashion from 1900's to 1990's.
